Welcome to Pleasure Island and our resort paradise we call Orange Beach. The City of Orange Beach has recently celebrated its 20th birthday and as we continue to grow, we hope that you find our community to be an enjoyable place to vacation, live or work. Our city has made a tremendous recovery following Hurricane Ivan and our staff and departments are dedicated to making Orange Beach one of the best places to visit and call home. The City of Orange Beach now offers wireless internet connectivity at various locations throughout our city; we hope you take advantage of the wi-fi zones. Ongoing improvements to city services and our infrastructure is a major priority and 2005 will see the largest beach nourishment project in the history of the State of Alabama. Orange Beach is a young, progressive, coastal resort that is nationally recognized as a year-round destination. To obtain a library card, Baldwin County residents must furnish a current local mailing address; non-residents must provide an acceptable form of identification or proof of local mailing address. Burn Permits
Burn permit requests must be made through the fire department, which is located at 25853 John Snook Drive. The city enforces the state code that prohibits gas grills above the first floor. For additional information, please call 981-6166.

Finance Department
The following functions are provided by the Finance Department, which is located in City Hall. Their number is 981-6096.

Business License And Tax Information
Phone: 981-6783, Fax: 981-2551. Business license and city tax information may be obtained from the department during the regular business day (8–5). Anyone doing business within the city limits or police jurisdiction of the City of Orange Beach must purchase an annual business license before conducting activities. Online information and forms are available at www.cityoforangebeach.com.

Hurricane Decals
Hurricane decals are issued by zone. All city utility customers will receive their decals every other year. Condo associations will distribute decals to their property owners. New residents must present proof of residency at City Hall to receive their decals. Business owners must provide a list of necessary personnel on your letterhead to Administrative Department at City Hall. There is a $10 replacement fee for each decal (limit of 2 total decals per household). For additional information, please call 981-6096.

Sewer & Garbage
4099 Orange Beach Blvd. Hours: Monday–Friday 8–5. For information about fees and services, please call 981-6096. Within the city limits of Orange Beach, a single family dwelling fee of $20 for sewer and $10 for garbage is billed monthly. Garbage service is mandatory.

Department Of Community Development: Building, Planning And Zoning

Site plan and zoning approvals, as well as building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits, may be obtained through the Department of Community Development. Insurance
Flood—Properties in Orange Beach are located in the following flood zones: AE Zones (flood hazard areas), X Zones and VE Zones (flood hazard areas). The Building Division (981-2610) can furnish information on Flood Zones. The City of Orange Beach participates in the National Flood Insurance Program so you may be eligible for a discount on your flood insurance.

Orange Beach Recreational Center
4849 Wilson Blvd. 981-PLAY (7529) Hours: Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.–7 p.m., Sunday 1–6 p.m. After-school and school holiday programs are provided, as well as the annual Camp Gator summer camp program. Structured programs for youth include sports, arts and crafts, and games. Amenities include a gymnasium, fitness center, aerobics room, game room and classrooms. Online information and schedules are available at www.cityoforangebeach.com. The Recreation Center is a permanent wi-fi hotspot with high-speed wireless internet connectivity available 24/7.

Waterfront Park
26425 Canal Rd. (1/4 mile east of Hwy. 161) Open to the public year-round. This beautiful family park is located on scenic Wolf Bay. Amenities include 400' fishing pier with covered pavilions and seating, picnic shelters with grills, restrooms, paved walking path, parking and Kids Park. The park is a permanent wi-fi hotspot with high-speed wireless internet connectivity available 24/7. The Pleasure Island Art Association (981-ARTS [2787]), is located in the historic Campbell House, which serves as a gallery with office space. The PIAA is a nonprofit organization composed of artisans from the area. Numerous art festivals and events are held at Waterfront Park.

Orange Beach Kids Park
26425 Canal Rd. (1/4 mile east of Hwy. 161) Built by volunteers and members of the Orange Beach Community Center Association, the Kids Park covers nearly a half acre with areas for all ages to enjoy. Wooden towers, swings, climbing platforms and misting stations bring hours of fun.

Orange Beach Senior Activity Center
26251 Canal Rd. Phone: 981-3440. The center is located adjacent to the Orange Beach Library. Amenities include arts and crafts, games, multi-purpose rooms and a screened-in back porch overlooking Wolf Bay. Year-round senior programs are offered by our professional staff.

Orange Beach Sportsplex
4385 William Silvers Pkwy. Phone: 981-6626. This regional sports facility includes venues for youth baseball, softball, soccer, adult softball, football, concerts and semi pro football, and hosts the SEC Women’s Soccer Championship and many other collegiate events. Offshore powerboat racing makes its dry pits home at the facility with race teams and crews opening up to meet the public. The SportsPlex is a permanent wi-fi hotspot with high-speed wireless internet connectivity available 24/7.

Orange Beach Aquatics Center
4853 Wilson Blvd. Phone: 974-SWIM (7946) Hours: Monday–Friday 6 a.m. –7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.–6 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m.– 5 p.m. Amenities include Junior Olympic swimming pool, 11½' diving well and separate wading pool with spray features. The Aquatics Center offers swimming lessons, water aerobics and other activities. The Aquatics Center is a permanent wi-fi hotspot with high-speed wireless internet connectivity available.

Orange Beach Tennis Center
4851Wilson Blvd. 974-NETS (6387) Hours: Courts open daily 6 a.m.–10 p.m. Amenities include eight lighted, mediumspeed hard courts.
Tennis Pro Shop open Monday–Friday 9 a.m.–7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Tennis Pro Shop features Wilson rackets, tennis shoes and accessories, along with Nike tennis apparel. Youth, adult and senior adult tennis programs are available. The Tennis Center is a permanent wi-fi hotspot with high-speed wireless internet connectivity available 24/7.

Orange Beach Indian and Sea Museum
25850 John Snook Dr. 981-8545 Hours: Tuesday–Friday 9–4, Saturday 9–2. Admission is free. The museum houses local artifacts and memorabilia relating to our Native American and fishing heritage. Families of early fishermen have donated supplies and collectibles that make us mindful of the challenges and achievements in the early days of our fishing industry.

Toll Road
The Foley Beach Express
Terminates/ begins on Hwy. 180, three miles west of Highway 161. Toll booths are located on the bridge landing north of the canal. For information regarding fares and short- or long-term passes, please call 968-3415. Orange Beach registered voters may obtain a Beach Express Discount Card by showing proof of voter registration at the toll booth offices.

Climate
The Gulf Coast Area has a mild climate with an average annual temperature of 67.4 degrees. The average temperature in January is 51.4 degrees. The average temperature in July is 81.8 degrees. The average annual precipitation is 67 inches, and the growing season is 292 days.

Education
Education is a fundamental block in building a bright future. The Gulf Coast Area opened a brand new high school during 1999 in Gulf Shores (ph. 251.968.4747). The area has two elementary schools; they are Gulf Shores Elementary (ph. 251.968.7375) and Orange Beach Elementary (ph. 251.981.5662). Gulf Shores Middle School (ph. 251.968.8719) offers an excellent curriculum in preparation for high school. All public schools are part of the Baldwin County school system. If you are interested in private education, you also have the option of Bayside Academy (ph. 251.955.5211), which includes age 3yrs – Grade 4.

Healthcare
The nearest hospital is South Baldwin Regional Medical Center (ph. 800.580.3627) located in Foley. South Baldwin Medical Center offers 24-hour emergency services (ph. 251.952.3400). Numerous medical professionals practice in the area providing both family practice and specialized care.

Airports
Corporate and Private air service is available in Gulf Shores from the Jack Edwards Municipal Airport, with a full Instrument Landing System and the longest paved runway being 7000 feet. The closest commercial air service is available in Pensacola, roughly 30 miles away, at the Pensacola Regional Airport (ph. 850.435.1746). Major carriers serving the airport are Continental, US Airways, Delta, Northwest, and American. Other commercial airports are located in Mobile (ph. 251.633.0313) and Gulf Port, Mississippi (ph. 228.863.5951).

Shopping
The area offers many shops ranging from casual apparel and beachwear to upscale fashion and specialty boutiques. If you are a bargain hunter, you can find 120 factory outlet stores in Foley.

Parks and Recreation
The nearest state park is the Gulf State Park (ph. 251.948.7275). The 6,000-acre park area offers campsites, picnic areas, 18-hole golf course, 825 foot fishing pier, 144 room hotel and convention center. Other parks in the area include Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge (ph. 251.540.7720), Meyer Park (ph. 251.968.4420), Johnnie Sims Park and Kids Park (ph. 251.968.4420), and Wade Ward Nature Park (ph. 251.968.4420).

State/Local Income Tax
